Hi, my name is Angela Walters and I am a machine quilter, author, fabric designer and coffee junkie. Isn’t it funny how life leads you down a road you never imagined? When I purchased my quilting machine, I had no intention of quilting for other people. I had talked (um….coerced) my husband into letting me buy a machine based on the fact that it would save money over my lifetime. Quilting my own quilts meant that I wouldn’t have to pay anyone else to do it. It made perfect sense to me.
One thing I hadn’t planned on was how much I loved machine quilting. I really, really loved it. After a few months, I had quilted all my unfinished quilt tops, as well as any other quilt tops that I could get my hand on. I quickly realized that I didn’t like piecing the quilt tops as much as machine quilting them. So, on a whim, I told my husband that I was going to go into business. I spent 30 minutes making and printing some business cards. With my not-at-all professional business cards in my hand, I declared myself open for business. As I showed my husband, I remember exclaiming, “Wouldn’t it be great if I could get just one person to pay me to machine quilt their quilt?” (Nothing like starting out a with a goal, even if it was a small one) I jumped right in, regardless of the fact I had no idea what I was doing. I just planned on figuring it out as I went along. Fortunately for me, it worked out. Having a quilting business is one of the best decisions I have made. It’s amazing to me that I get paid to do something that I am so passionate about, it really is the American dream.
Now, years later, my business continues to grow. Besides machine quilting for my awesme customers, I have had the opportunity to write books about machine quilting as well as teach classes. It’s so fun! Even though it has worked out better than I could have imagine, I made tons of mistakes along the way. If I can help encourage other professional machine quilters as well as help them avoid some of the same mistakes, then this website has been a success!
